Prague has one of the best public transportation systems in Europe. The metro, trams and buses are used by two-thirds of Prague’s population and cover the majority of the city and its outskirts. The metro especially makes getting around town a breeze since it enables you to cover long distances in a matter of minutes. If you can’t continue to your destination on foot, you’ll be able to catch a tram or bus from near the subway station.
We take public transport in Prague all the time. It is easy, reliable, and very affordable. The only times you may want to consider driving or taking a taxi are commute times. You will be stuck in traffic but you’ll avoid being crammed into a tram or metro car full to the brim with your fellow passengers.
If you are flying into Prague, your first concern probably is how to get to your destination from the airport. The Airport – Downtown section is a good one to read.
The Parking and Taking a Taxi pages may be helpful if you decide to drive or take a cab.
If you’re going to be staying in Prague for a few days and plan on taking public transport every day, you can save money and time by buying a tourist transport pass. A list of passes and other ticket information is provided on our Tickets & Passes page.
